I vmware workstation 12 pro boot from usb free to try a lot of tutorials as given here windows tutorials tutorial index So I need to prepare a lot of live USB sticks or USB sticks in the formats in which tutorials mention. Most of these tutorials that I want to try are windows installation media creation, creating recovery disks creating custom partitions etc.
I workstahion to try them first on virtual machines then want to try the steps on real hardware. I am using Vmware Workstation 15 Pro I read a tutorial here for usb booting in vmware. Here is how my virtual machine settings look like. I power on owrkstation firmware and see the boot options configure boot options add boot options No USB boot option So the question is how do I configure vmware workstation 15 so that I can boot using USB sticks.
I selected the plpt iso which is probably plop boot manager ISO. Using the firmware boot workstaton, after you powered on the machine make sure the USB is connected:. If that didn’t work, plop is a good option.

As you can see, it’s not possible to boot directly on an USB key. The 1st technique to boot on a bootable USB key or a bootable external hard drive consists in using the “Plop Boot Manager” boot manager. One of its advantages is that it’s available in iso format bootable CD and img format bootable floppy. Warning : this boot manager is not compatible with EFI.
Once “Plop Boot Manager” downloaded, unzip the downloaded zip file and go to the settings of your virtual machine. Or preferably use the bootable floppy “plpbt.
If the floppy drive is not part of your virtual machine, click “Add”, then add a “Floppy Drive” to get it. Now, your virtual machine arrives on the “Plop Boot Manager”. Select the “USB” option and press Enter. If all goes well, your virtual machine will start on your bootable USB key.
