Netflix still refuses to support the app, saying it is NOT their app. They suggested that I contact the phone manufacturer as they are the ones that receive the information from Netflix on how the app should work. As the phone is a Nokia Lumia that means Microsoft develops the app according to Netflix.

Netflix support also explained that each phone manufacturer and cell provider tweak the app so they can track what you are watching for better targeted advertising.

They also explained the the app is not needed. If you uninstall the app and use the browser the movies play – BUT the controls are so small they cannot be used.
