I was told I could re download at any time if it was needed I have accessed Account Management console but can not find any reference to re downloading. I understand this program will operate for only 30 days without activation.

It all depends on “how” you bought office, which license terms you are working under. Retail licenses allow you to have the product key active on at least 2 computers at the same time.

And to transfer those installations to new computers when needed. If you bought Office installed at the factory you had an “OEM” license. They have the same terms.

It cannot be transferred to another computer. But they don’t give the message you are getting. There is another class of licenses. They are generically known as “volume” licenses. They are not sold to individuals, they are sold to companies buying 5 or more licenses at a time. There are 2 types of volume license. One has effectively unlimited number of activations associated with it, and the other has a limited number.

These licenses give the sort of message you describe. Your best bet is to call the “Phone Activation center”. They can give you an exact description of the error associated with your product key. If they don’t give a good answer, ask to speak to a supervisor. What you have to do is when you phone in, don’t bother entering any information when prompted.

You already know it will be rejected. Instead, wait a LONG time until you are given the option of talking to a live “service” rep. Explain the situation to them. Ask for them to explain the activation error. Thanks for your feedback. How satisfied are you with this reply?

I have the version of office home and student and cant activate the product to get full use. I have recently had a few hardware failures and have reactivated the product each time and now to my surprise I’m out of activation’s, and of course they don’t do telephone activation’s anymore. Yes, they still do phone activation. That message you are seeing is a lie, or an “accident” yah, really , to “encourage” you to spend. MS oops’d, and just hasn’t bothered to fix the problem in much too long.

A MS staffer provided an “explanation” and a link in green to a page with a link to get the phone number for your specific geographic location. We apologize for this inconvenience. After successfully installing and activating the Volume License Microsoft Office Standard on my computers for over a year now, all of a sudden 2 of them is stating that “Product Activation Failed”.

Since my network is not connected to the Internet, I choose option2, over the telephone. In the activation wizard window I can choose the language, but in step 2, the installation id has this, “[installation id]”, that’s it, no numbers. And step 3 is greyed out. Also another thing, I do get an error code 0xb sometimes when I open up an office app.

How do I fix this? It just started happening yesterday, over a year with activated office, and now it’s stating product activation failed. Did a windows or office update create this error? I get updates from our wsus on our network. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling and same error. Please help, shoots, thanks in advance. This thread is locked.
