User’s post on December 27, Thank you for the reply, my computer is an Alienware X51 R1, as I said in my original post, the sound issue occurs both in Steam games and non Steam games, following advice from Nvidia who manufacture the graphics card in my computer I have tried reinstalling the drivers for my device but this made no difference so I will now try what you have suggested and will see what happens.
In reply to Owen Hamilton’s post on December 28, I have now done what you suggested regarding uninstalling the audio drivers and this has made no difference, as I said in my original post, it appears that all the drivers were installed correctly when I did the clean install of Windows.

Step 1: I suggest you to look at the volume mixer for device and applications on Taskbar and check Follow the steps: a Click on the sound icon at the bottom right corner of the Taskbar.

User’s post on December 29, I am able to play music and video within Windows with no issues, I have checked that all the volumes in the mixer are set to maximum, I did not get any audio applications with the computer so am unable to check that. Check if your audio driver has been updated, and roll back to the previous one. It is also worth checking for a driver update for both devices. Right-click the device and select Update Driver from the context menu. An update or an app might have disabled audio devices on your system.
This is annoying but very simple to fix. Windows 10 has a system-wide volume control, and it has app-specific volume controls. You should also check if you have an app that may be controlling the audio and either disable it, or uninstall it. Connect a different device to your system and see if it works.
