Awarded Mac App of the Year by Apple. Rated 4. With Smooth Edges turned on, the edges of the erased areas are smoothed to make the object blend in more naturally in other images. Leave this option on. Opacity Adjusts the transparency of the Smart Erase tool. With lower settings, areas become only partially transparent. Sample All Layers With this option selected, the Smart Erase tool takes into account every single layer in your image, although it erases only the selected layer.
Smooth Edges Naturally smooths the edges of erased areas. Turning this option off erases edge pixels completely, resulting in a little more precision but a with jagged look. The Tolerance label shows you how much of any similar colors the Smart Erase tool will erase. After removing the main background, make sure to remember to remove any parts of it inside objects by following the same steps.

– Hell of a Tutorial in Pixelmator
Follow thread. Thu Feb 13, pm One of the tools I often use is Cmd-delete to fill a layer with foreground colour and Opt-delete to fill with background. Typically I’m filling a layer with White from the background colour. The trouble is that I don’t always know where I left forground and background so it would be really useful if I could easily find out what they are set to.
Maybe by having current foreground and background colour as an optional display item in the Info Bar? What do you think? Fri Feb 14, am Great idea but I feel it showed be optional to toggle it on and off.
Fri Feb 14, am We have considered this in the past and I personally do like the idea but the Info bar probably isn’t the best place for it numerical representations of colors aren’t the easiest to parse in most cases and, to be honest, there aren’t many other places we could put actual color squares. Back in the early days of the original Pixelmator, they used to be in the Tools palette but that probably wouldn’t work in Pixelmator Pro.
In any case, we’ll consider this. And in the meantime, you could choose the Color Fill tool N , then press the X key to switch background and foreground colors — in the color well, you’ll see what your background color is set to. Fri Feb 14, am Aha I hadn’t realised that the info bar was text only I should have twigged as there is only text in there.
That makes this request a lot more work than I had thought for what is just a small benefit. This time however move the direction, like the image below. Create another layer and change its Blendings to Color Dodge , again.
Use the image below for reference. Now you can add some colors if you want. To do that, just create a new layer right on top of the background layer and fill it with a gradient color. I used a default gradient that comes with Pixelmator.
Select the Gradient Tool G and drag a diagonal line like the image below. In this tutorials we used some of the cool Quartz Composer filters that come with Pixelmator. The best thing in this filters and in Pixelmator is how fast it manages the previews and the quality. I’ve been telling this since the very first Pixelmator tutorial I wrote, and I really wish that Photoshop was fast and beautiful as this amazing app.

Step 2 Select the Gradient Tool G and fill the background layer with a gradient from blue to black. Use 4 for the Radius. Step 6 Now change the Blendings of the layer to Color Dodge. Step 8 Create a new layer, change the Blendings to Color Dodge , and lets repeat the same steps we did to create the first element.
Step 10 Let’s rotate the layer. Step 11 Now let’s create another layer and apply the grid filter one more time.
