I worked for a school that used Microsoft and as an employee I was able to download the package for free at home to work from home. I have now left the company and no longer have access to my outlook email. Several times a day the system prompts me to login, which I am unable to do. It is really affecting the speed on my computer and the constant prompts are annoying – they have also increased over the last week.

Yes, if your subscription with the school account has lapsed, then you will need to purchase a subscription to Office now Microsoft for your own personal use In theory, you should be able to log out of Office form that school account and log in with your new account when you purchase an Office subscription This is just a personal choice, but if I were you, I would totally uninstall Office from your PC,then install Office with your own personal details when you purchase that subscription.

Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. Uninstalling using Method 1 will leave customizations in place. When you install either or , those customizations will be picked up. Method 1 : Uninstall from Control Panel or Settings dialog. It does NOT delete everything. DOTM and other templates etc. It also leaves configuration Registry entries.

Note : Method 1 includes links to Office version specific re-install instructions. The article got too long for the forum, so I moved it to a Word document and uploaded it to OneDrive. You can take the easy way out and rent Office forever whether you really NEED the “extra” features you are paying for or you can take some time to investigate all of the options to find the best deal for you.

If you meet the right conditions, you really can get Office for FREE or much cheaper than everyone else who is paying the full retail price.

You will have to decide for yourself. Office comes with the 1TB of OneDrive, Skype time and “new” advanced features, install on up to 5 computers at the same time. Probably not You need to do the “cost:benefit” assessment for yourself. Which features do you absolutely NEED? Is the extra price worth the cost. So, if you have family or friends you can share Home with, to the 6 user total yourself plus 5 shares Home is the most cost effective version. Especially if you can get some of the shares to actually pay you for it ie if you live in a seniors home, not so much with family.

With family, even if you call it a “gift”, the recipients get “used” to having it and discount it’s value as a gift. The final MS option is Office Online. If you are doing simple work, simple documents and spreadsheets, then Office Online is worth considering.

But if you are used to using more than the basic features of your Office applications, you will find Office online frustrating to use. The 2 main free contenders are the Google Online applications, they close to functionally the same as Office Online applications.

Or you can get one of the installed Office Alternatives like LibreOffice. These applications are functionally very similar to installed Office. They are not identical, but with a little flexibility you can adapt to the differences.
